Early/Lead Web App & Browser Add-on Developer

at scrible (San Francisco, CA, USA) Full Time Saturday, December 18th, 2010

Job Description:

We’re a funded startup looking for our first few founding-level developers to help us change the way the world works online with a new paradigm for manipulating and managing Web content, particularly for Web-based research.

Even though the world uses the Internet to research nearly everything for work, school and home (job postings, press releases, Wikipedia articles, medical info, etc.), most folks still use old-school ways of annotating, organizing and sharing online info (printing to mark by hand, copying/pasting into Word, etc.). It’s archaic, laborious and a waste of time. We’re changing that. We’re bringing Web-based research into the Internet Era by empowering people to mark up web pages in the browser and manage and collaborate on them online. And that’s just the start… We’ve got much more planned in variety of areas to help people manage the mounds of info they’re pulling off the Web everyday.

You’ll be working closely with us, scrible’s Founders. We’ve had previous startup success as early contributors at a later acquired venture. We’ve been scrappy and strategic about raising/spending funding. We’re sharp, driven and hard-working, but like a good laugh. We’re really excited to work with brilliant, positive, good-hearted software developers. As an early team member, you’ll get innovative work, a critical role in shaping our future, an opportunity to help masses of people and a chance to define how humanity works online in the Internet Age.

• Develop ingenious new functionality to expand our novel web app

• Develop sophisticated, interactive browser add-ons (a.k.a. plug-ins or extensions)

• Develop and enhance server-side Java components integrated with the add-ons

• Use JavaScript to build highly interactive UIs for Web content manipulation

• Benchmark against alternatives to ensure phenomenal user experience

• Be flexible and able to work on the new things that’ll pop up

• BS or MS in computer science or equivalent

• Experience or interest in developing browser add-ons

• Experience or working knowledge of DOM manipulation

• Experience building Java server components

• Bonus: Experience building Ruby on Rails apps

• Proactive/independent in “figuring-it-out” to progress with little guidance

• Passion, drive and work ethic to work smart and hard to change the world

• Ability to perform in a typical resource-constrained startup environment

• Positive, pleasant, “can do” attitude and some humility

• Start ASAP

• Located in the Bay Area

• Flexible/casual work environment

• Full time employment or contract-to-hire

• Competitive salary, stock options and benefits
