Mobile Media Specialist

Job Description:

The Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism at West Virginia University is seeking a full-time mobile media specialist to innovate, teach and build mobile and tablet applications in a unique incubator environment for community based mobile media, beginning August 1, 2011.

This position is responsible for coordinating the mobile initiative region wide, the development and deployment of mobile applications, and the development of an open source mobile publishing system for rural communities and the industry nationwide. In addition to coordinating and providing instruction, the person will be responsible for the development of media-based web, mobile and tablet applications serving as the key developer for the PI Reed School of Journalism mobile media research initiative. This initiative is a research-based project piloting new economic models for mobile media publishing, audience development, innovative user interface and novel location based services for rural media and rural communities.

Candidates must have at least two years of professional experience in application development for mobile and at least one year of experience working in a journalism or media environment. Master’s degree in a relevant field is required.

WVU is a land-grant, research university, and the ACEJMC-accredited School of Journalism is an independent academic unit. The school offers two Master’s Degree programs, in journalism and integrated marketing communications.

The university is located in Morgantown, which has a diverse population of about 60,000 and has been ranked as one of the nation’s most livable cities. Morgantown is within easy driving distance of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Washington, D.C.
